Q. Why is Harold Macmillan's role in the World History important?

Ans - Harold Macmillan was the last British Prime Minister born in the reign of Queen Victoria. He was also the last to have served in the First World War.

Macmillan was one of the Outstanding leaders of the 20th century. He was a statesman who distanced the UK from apartheid, sped up the process of decolonisation and was deeply involved in negotiating the nuclear test ban treaty.

As the Prime Minister after the World War, he gave priority to post war settlements and in developing a mixed economy.

Ans - The Roman empire ended when Constantinople fell. The Ottoman army under the command of Sultan Mehmed II defeated the Byzantine Emperor Constantine XI Palaiologos and his army.

The seven week siege of Constantinople, the capital of the Eastern Roman or Byzantine Empire, began on Friday, 6th April, 1453. Constantinople fell on the 29th May. The conquest of Constantinople was a major setback for Christendom as it allowed Ottoman armies to advance into Europe without fear of an attack from the rear.

Following his great victory, Sultan Mehmed shifted his capital from Adrianople to Constantinople. The conquest of Constantinople was a significant event of the late Middle Ages.
